Today’s guest is Reading midfielder Dave Edwards. Edwards has made more than 450 appearances in 18 seasons as a professional. He started his career at Shrewsbury Town, the team he supported as a child, before a brief stop at Luton Town.
He then went to Wolverhampton, where he spent 10 seasons from 2008-2017, and won the Championship in 2009. He’s affectionately known as Dangerous Dave to those fans and in his career, he has scored 60 goals. He has also represented Wales 43 times across the last decade including 3 times at the 2016 Euros. In this episode, Dave takes us behind the scenes for one of the wildest rides in recent major tournament history when Wales made the 2016 Euro semi-finals.
We also talk about why athletes are reluctant to speak out on social and political issues and the state of activism and sports here in the UK. It’s pretty rare that an athlete will discuss it so it’s a real treat and we hope you respect Dave’s willingness to do so.
If you want more details about the 2016 Euros with Wales or just want to know what it’s like to be a player at a major tournament, then go buy Dave’s book, Dave Edwards: Living My Dream on Amazon. All of Dave’s proceeds from the book go to the Little Rascals Foundation which is a great cause.
