Colombia topped ‘Group H’, one of the two toughest groups to call in the World Cup, with wins against Senegal 1-0 and Poland 3-0, and a loss 2-1 to Japan. While Jose Pekerman’s team were tipped from the outset to progress to the Round of 16, Carlos Sanchez’s early red card against Japan put Colombia on the back foot; they also failed to convince against Senegal for the first half of their clash, before Yerry Mina’s second headed goal from a set piece in Russia settled the game in the South Americans’ favour.
Colombia pose a variety of attacking puzzles to solve for any opposition defence. They’ve only faced one back three so far at the tournament, and they beat Poland’s 3-0.
England face a stern challenge.
